THE HOSPITAL Palo Verde Hospital is a 55-bed acute care facility located in Blythe, California. During the summer, the hospital serves a primary service area (California and Arizona) of approximately 25,000 people, with the winter months increasing to 100,000. Palo Verde Hospital offers a full range of inpatient and outpatient services including a 24-hour physician-staffed Emergency, a Special Care Unit (ICU), radiography, CT, MRI, ultrasound and an FDA-certified mammography unit, cardiopulmonary and respiratory therapy services, obstetrics, telemetry, inpatient and outpatient surgery, complete laboratory services, social services and community education programs. Back to Top THE COMMUNITY Blythe residents enjoy sunshine 360 days a year, with average winter high temperatures ranging from 55 to 75 degrees and average summer temperatures ranging from 85 to 110. Average rainfall is 3.96 inches. Air pollution has yet to find its way to Blythe and fifty-mile visibility is common. On some days, the peak of Mt. San Jacinto, towering over Palm Springs, can be seen 130 miles to the west. Blythe offers the relaxed, carefree atmosphere of a small community with the convenience of nearby larger metropolitan areas. Located at the junction of Interstate 10 and US 95, Blythe is within a 4-hour driving distance of 10% of the entire population of the United States. As a center for the region's agricultural and tourist industries, Blythe has more than 1,000 motel rooms, RV and mobile home parks, and retail stores. The city operates an airport with the capability of handling modern jet aircraft. Back to Top EDUCATION Three elementary schools, one middle school, one high school and one continuation school make up the Palo Verde Unified School District. Palo Verde Community College is a two-year institute. Additionally, there are two private schools available in Blythe. The school system is small enough so students do not lose their identities, but large enough to be effective. Palo Verde Community College is in the process of building a new expanded campus, as well as offering Baccalaureate Degree. Back to Top RECREATION The Palo Verde Valley is a recreational paradise. Activities include boating, water skiing, swimming, golfing, fishing, canoeing, camping, hiking, dunebuggy and dirtbike sports, hunting, trapping and other exciting outdoor activities. The Colorado River recreation area (about 650 miles) extends from Yuma, Arizona, to Lake Powell. There is almost 95 miles of navigable water to use for you enjoyment between Blythe and Imperial Dam in Yuma. Popular events such as the Colorado River Country Music Festival, Miss Blythe Pageant, Family Fair Street Festivals and stock car races provide year-round entertainment for all ages. There are many swap meets, as well as gem and mineral shows in nearby Quartzsite, Arizona, for everyone to enjoy.
